Dairy
This Sale, organised by breeder Donal McKeon Sligo, saw some excellent prices achieved for Dairy female stock. The majority of animals in the sale coming from the Carrowhubbock Herd with some calves from the Ransboro Herd of Glenn Carter, and the Monasteroris Herd of Michael Manley. Lot 1 Carrowhubbock Fanny 16th, an eight year old cow sold for 1,280. Lot 5 Carrowhubbock Fanny 33rd, a 2 year old heifer, sired by Maxton Invader, sold for 1,100. Lot 9 Carrowhubbock Anne 4th, a 2 year old heifer, sired by Courtover Fellow, sold for 1520. Lot 13 Carrowhubbock Fanny 37th, a yearling heifer, sired by Bilbro Stephen, sold for 1850. The above lots were purchased by Douglas Gilpin, Derrylane, Killeshandra, Co. Cavan. Lot 10 Carrowhubbock
Fanny 36th, a 2 year old heifer, sired by Carrowhubbock Threescoops (CWU),
sold for 1,200. Lot 6 Carrowhubbock
Dainty 45th, a 2 year old heifer, sired by Maxton Invader Lot 2 Carrowhubbock
Jennie Deans 25th , cow, sired by Hooton Fair Appeal, sold for
2,000. Lot 11 Monasteroris Jennie Deans 7th, a 2 year old heifer, sired by Bilbro Stephen from the herd of Michael Manley, Offaly, sold for 1,210 and was purchased by Jimmy Burke, Middlemount, Rathdowney, Co. Laois.
Ennis 6th October (Shannonside Club) Beef 80% clearance out of total lot of 147 with the average price of 1,100. A packed ringside, with plenty of buyers with a good trade for weanling heifers. Average quality heifers made between 700 and 1,200, with good quality heifers making up to 1,700 and 1,800. The top price of 4,150 for lot 117, a yearling heifer, Ballyshonakin Anne 45th, Sire Ballyshonakin Advantage, Dam Ballyshonakin Anne 11th, sold by John Hudner, Ballyshonakin, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick, and purchased by Richard Sheehy, (Mountrussell Herd), Mountrussell, Ardpatrick, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick. A number of excellent quality weanling heifers were sold out of
the Bushypark Herd, owned by John Keane, Baar, Kilfenora, Co. Clare. All
these females were sired by Johns Stock Bull Lickeen Enda 5th, Dam
Lickeen Foxglove 2nd, Sire Lickeen Enda. Some of these lots were Other high priced yearling heifers Top price for 2006 weanling bull 1,525 was paid for Bushpark Enda 1st, born 21st February, Sire Lickeen Enda 5th, Dam Bushpark Rosleen, sold by John Keane, Baar, Kilfenora, Co. Clare, purchased by Michael OFlaherty, Tierlaheen, Ennisymon, Co. Clare.
Mohill 13th October Beef (Croghan Club The Shorthorn Sale in Mohill sparked some of the enthusiasm and
interest which the Shorthorn Breed is experiencing at present. The Sale
had a full clearance of 73 lots, with lot 61 selling for 2,600.This
in-calf heifer Annaly Peggy, Sire Kilkelly Major, Dam Annaly Josie, sold
by James Brady, Longford was purchased by Eamon Tubman, Fenagh,
Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim.
Carrick-on-Shannon 21st October Carrick-on-Shannon an excellent venue for selling Shorthorn Pedigree animals, male and female with the 2006 Autumn Sale no exception. Bull prices ranged from 850 to 1,500 with the top price of 1,500 being paid for lot 154 Kinard Bob born 18/4/2005 bred by Alo OHara, Ballysundriven, Elphin, Co. Roscommon. This bull sired by Eionmor Ultra 8C, was purchased by breeder Kiernan McAlister, Kilbride, Aclare, Co. Sligo. With just 12 females in the sale the sellers went home with
happy with some excellent prices achieved. Top price of 3,000 was paid
for lot 162 Rockville Yvonne, D.O.B 10/2/05, sired by Kilkelly Major, dam
Knockanoulty Nora, bred by Anthony Dockery, Carrow, Elphin, Co. Roscommon.
The purchaser of this animal was Richard Wilson, The Rock, Mount Charles,
Co.Donegal.
Carlow 21st October Beef (Mount Leinster Club) A Sale of both Pedigree and non Pedigree giving a total lot of 102 animals, with 90% of all Pedigree animals sold. Top price of 1,020 for a maiden heifer Capponellan Daff, sire Ballyerk Ballygran Highfield, dam Capponellan Daffodill 2nd, bred by Donal Bowe, Co. Laois.was purchased by Con Condon, Cloughready, Emly, Co. Tipperary. Con also bought lot 24 1,010, Quinflo Valerie, Sire Aughnashannagh Norman, Dam Cathair Valerie. Lot 27 - 920, Bannpark Felicia Lady 1st, Sire Sliabhbhui Bounty, Dam Bannpark Felicia Velvet 1st, bred by John Binions, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford. Breeder James Whelan sold a number of March 06 born heifer calves ranging in price from 860 to 910. Top price paid for in-calf heifer (calving spring 2007) 1,110 Sliabhbhui Charm, Sire Deerpark Furty 5th, Dam Whitechurch Charm 3rd, bred by Fr. Felix Byrne, Wexford.
