A big crowd attended the Premier Beef Shorthorn Sale which took place on Saturday October 15th in Roscommon Mart. The Show Champion Creaga Flo, a maiden heifer bred by Noel Dowd, Creggs, Co. Galway. Flo is a daughter of the top beef bull Creaga Dice Straws of Dice are available from Dovea Genetics. Flo was sold to a breeder from Donegal for £2050 euro. The Reserve Champion Rowanberry Derek, a March 2010 born roan bull bred by Shane & Frances Brigdale, Ennis, Co. Clare. Derek was sired by Rowanberry Archie an Uppermill Loch Alsh son, Derek remained unsold on the day. The top priced in calf heifer Kilbeagh Nell 2nd a Stonmore Thundercloud daughter owned by Joe Rafferty, Kilteevan, Co. Roscommon was sold for £2000 euro to a Mayo breeder. The top priced weanling heifer Coolvin Milly, also a Thundercloud daughter bred by Padraig Coughlan, Ballymahon, Co. Westmeath was sold to a Leitrim breeder for £2000 euro also. The Judges on the day were Michael & Oliver Flanagan owners of the Moydrumcastle Shorthorn herd in Athlone. There are two remaining Beef Shorthorn sales scheduled for Castlerea Mart on October 22nd and Carlow Mart on October 29th.
