We would like to welcome two new members on to Council as elected at our recent Annual General Meeting on June 9th. Kenneth Smyth, St Margarets, Co.Dublin and Michael McKeon, Gurteen, Co. Sligo. We would like to thank the outgoing Council members Paddy O'Callaghan, Jim Bohan & Cyril Dunne for all their hard work over many years. Our new President Jim Foley, Rathanna, Sligo,was elected at the first meeting of the new Council on June 21st, our Vice President Noel Dowd was returned for a second year, also our Treasurer Michael Manley was returned for another year and our new PRO is Michael Murphy, Mallow, Co.Cork.

The Society is organising for the first time a Shorthorn Young Handlers Competition 2011. The Competition will be divided into two sections Under 14yrs on 01/01/2011 and 14-18yrs on 01/01/2011. Proof of age may be required on show day. The entrants can exhibit any Pedigree Registered Shorthorn animal born on or after 01/01/2010. Note for Tullamore the animal has to be born on or after 01/01/2011 for safety reasons. Entrants will be judged under three categories: Grooming and presentation of the animal on show day Showmanship and handling skills in the show ring General Knowledge question on animal husbandry or the Shorthorn breed
There are four participating shows - Athlone on June 26th, Tullamore Show on August 14th, Limerick Show on August 28th, Strokestown Show on September 10th. Prizes money & rosetttes will be handed out at each show. 1st Prize £40, 2nd Prize £30, 3rd Prize £20 4th Prize £10. All remaining placements will receive a small prize also.So we hope all our young members have already selected their animal and we look forward to seeing you all at the various shows over the summer show season - so get started today it's never too late. |
